A Soldier's Play Lighting Design

Nathan Schroeder

Clayton Community Theatre presented A Soldier's Play in November 2019, for which I received a Theater Mask Award for Outstanding Lighting Design from Arts for Life.

Scenes in the play take place in a number of locations on a military base; many of them involve a person telling a story, while the story is also acted out in flashback. I used color contrasts to distinguish the actions happening in the present (the telling of the story) and the flashback. As well, lighting was used in some cases to delineate space.
